There are few countryside
activities that create as much heated argument as that of fox hunting.
Supporters claim it is an important part of life in the countryside,
detractors claim it is cruel and vulgar. Whatever the rights or wrongs of the activity it is a fact that in 2005 the government passed a law banning the hunting of foxes using horses and hounds. Many thought this would be the end of the story but in fact it only made huntsmen and women more determined to
continue. This is true of the local Thurlow Hunt which still
continues to ride out with the hounds whenever possible.
This year the Thurlow Hunt is organising a traditional
New Year’s Day event starting in Clare.
So if you would like to view the spectacle of horses and hounds preparing for the off then you will need to be at the Bell at 10.am on New Year’s Day 2009
