A celebration took place in Clare recently to present councillors with the trophy for the St Edmundsbury Village of the year award.

The Mayor of St Edmundsbury, Robert Cockle, presented the silver bowl trophy to parish councillor June Smith, who led the joint community challenge for the competition.

Cllr Cockle said in presenting the trophy: “This award is a huge tribute to all of those community groups who contributed to Clare’s campaign in what is a challenging and rigorous inspection process. They can be justifiably proud of their efforts”.

Chairman of Clare Parish Council Keith Haisman, welcomed the award, saying: “What this really shows is that the town has really started pulling together, realising the clubs depend on each other for help and support".
