Haverhill Rovers were founded in 1886, but the club first started playing
at Hamlet Croft in 1913.
At the start of the 1924/25 season Rovers joined the Essex & Suffolk Border
League but, after finishing bottom at the end of the 1927/28 season, elected
to leave that league. Eight years later, in the 1935/36 season, Rovers rejoined
the Border League. In 1962/63 they won the league and retainied the title
the following year, when they also won the Knock Out Cup again to record their
second "double".
In 1964 Rovers joined the Eastern Counties League, finishing a creditable
sixth in their first season and also winning the League Cup, defeating Stowmarket
Town. The following year, Rovers again reached the final of the cup, but lost
out to Lowestoft Town.
The club have been runners up in Suffolk Premier Cup, losing in the final
twice, in 1965/66 2-1 to Bury Town and in 1990/91 3-2 to Stowmarket Town.

In an excellent send off for Hamlet Croft, Haverhill Rovers had one of their best result in the past few years .
2006 is due to be Rovers' last year at Hamlet Croft after their 93 years
at the ground.
Plans are at an advanced stage for a new Community Football Club complex near
Samuel Ward Upper School and Technology College to encompass the many teams
at several levels that are now a part of the club.
The new stadium will have a state of the art 3G artificial pitch, the best
in the region by some distance, which will be used from January 2007 onwards
if plans are successful. It will also be up to Ryman League standard with
a new stand/clubhouse built next to the enclosed pitch area.
FOR 11 years Haverhill Rovers Football Club has been stuck in the Ridgeons
League First Division.
For 10 years the club has tried and tried to gain promotion and come very
close on more than one occasion and just fallen short. But with a squad containing
no fewer than ten local players Rovers finally returned to the Ridgeons League
Premier Division to cap off perhaps the greatest season in the history of
the club.
Manager Steve Taylor, said: "I'm ecstatic and I'm glad for the players”.

Haverhill
is preparing for a major fundraising event as Haverhill Cricket Club takes
on the might of the international star players of Lashings World XI –
the world’s greatest cricket club side.
Jon Watkins, player and current Head Groundman said “This will be a
great occasion, not only for the club and the players, but also for the spectators
who are lucky enough to get to see the
match.”
This very different kind of fundraising Cricket Match is due to take place on 23rd August 2007 at The Manor Road Ground, Haverhill. Haverhill Cricket Club's players, who come from Haverhill and the surrounding area, are going to put themselves on the line to face the biggest sporting challenge of their lives. The club are taking on the renowned Lashings World XI team to help raise funds for new net facilities for the clubs youth coaching programme. Lashings World XI‘s line up reads like the 'Who’s Who' of world cricket, with legends such as Richie Richardson (WI), Aravinda De Silva (SRI L), Alvin Kallicharran (WI), Gordon Greenidge (WI) and Phil Defreitas (ENG), alongside current stars Chris Cairns (NZ), Tatenda Taibu (ZIM) and 2005 England’s Ashes winning Captain, Clare Connor. Although this may seem an impossible challenge, the game promises a day of fun for all involved and the local side are optimistic!
The aim of the day, as well as offering the opportunity to enjoy quality cricket, is to raise money to provide better coaching facilities for the Club's Youth Cricket Academy. Although the Youth Academy was only started two years ago, it has already attracted 80 players under the age of 16 and the Club expects this number to increase to 120 during the coming season! The event will be strictly all ticket and tickets will be available from the Town Hall from the 1st June. Tickets will cost £10 for adults, £5 for under 16’s and family tickets will be available at a discounted price of £20.
Haverhill Cricket Club is making provision for corporate hospitality at the event, offering local and national businesses the chance to meet the superstars of cricket.
